Welcome to my little niche of cyberspace.
First and foremost, I reserve the right to be completely wrong about anything I post, even in the face of irrefutable evidence.
Here, you will find some articles, opinions, and maybe a how-to or two on things that interest me or annoy me. My interest lies mainly with computers and electronic gadgets, and is in no way influenced by my trade as an electrician.
While some may be amused, or have a W.T.F. moment, remember opinions are like assholes, everybody has one.

While bouncing around the internet for various Raspberry Pi projects, I stumbled across the Raspberry Pi KVM, I was intrigued. I already had a Raspberry Pi 4 lying around that I wasn't using, so I decided it was something I didn't need but couldn't live without. I purchased the PiKVM A8 from Amazon and installed it on my FreeBSD system. So, you will need a Raspberry Pi 4, but you don't need the 8G memory version. Save some money, and get the 2G version or the 4G.
This setup required some trial and error since they didn't specify which version to use with the A8, and it turns out it was PiKVM Version 3. On the upside, I am powering the device via the USB-C port on my motherboard, the Pi's not complaining. The Pi is accessed through a web browser, you will see a security warning, accept the risk and you'll be taken to the admin screen, allowing you to interact with the system. Another benefit is that it includes an Arch Linux terminal, effectively creating a secondary computer within the primary system. I know, crazy right?

I'm an electrician by trade. I started my apprenticeship in IBEW Local 640 in 1988 and graduated in 1992. After graduation, I received my Washington State electrician license in 1992. In 1993, I received my Electrical Administrator license. I worked in commercial and heavy industrial construction for over 20 years. Then, I went to work for a small Mom-and-Pop commercial aircraft manufacturer in Everett, Washington, as an electronics technician. I work primarily on robotic arms, automated ground vehicles, material lifts...
I've always been interested in computers, going back to DOS 2.1 on 5 1/4" floppies, yes, we've come a long way. In 1995, I stumbled across Linux and downloaded Red Hat 2.0, I think. Then, around 2001, I ran across a reference:
Today, I have 7 computers and 2 Raspberry PI's running various forms open source operating systems. So, II reserve the right to be completely wrong about anything I post,
